Summary of Ted Talks;
Andras then starts to talk about this figure you can see next to this text. He explains the figure and is telling the audience that over the next few decades the amount of animals we raise to slaughter and use will nearly double just to compensate our population rising. He then gets into the serious environmental topic of the resources which will have to be used to raise and maintain all of these animals. Then he gets in to the topic of animals not being just raw materials they are living beings.
This next figure
shows how much livestock use of our resources and how much land they actually
use up. Disease, global warming and abuse are all factors of keeping a lot of
animals close together. After talking about how costly all of that can be, the
turning point of the speech is when he announces there is another way to
overcome these problems.Sound Analysis Clip
-In this clip right at the start there is only the diegetic sound of Ms Pickwells phone ringing with no non diegetic sound in the background.
-After when she picks up the phone the only sound is still diegetic and only the voices of the people on the phone.
-As soon as Alfie starts to speak in the style of who wants to be a millionaire a beat in the background starts to play. This is asynchronous sound as it does not appear to arise directly from the scene it comes in to build up tension between the two.
-While Ms Pickwell is going to try and find Alfie you can still hear the non diegetic and diegetic sound playing together. You can hear Ms Pickwells footsteps as long with the heartbeat in the background.
-When Ms Pickwell eventually looks in the classroom to find Alfies class a prank has been played on her. Straight away you hear the diegetic sound but then a lively asynchronous song plays in the background encouraging the viewers to laugh and break up the tension.
-Then after the prank is heard still while your hearing the diegetic sound of the kids and alfie laughing you can hear a chicken laughing which is synchronous sound as the chicken sound is matching the dancing chicken on the screen.
-Then straight after you hear the theme tune playing and this is non diegetic as it is the theme tune and not directly in the clip.

DIEGETIC
A sound that is part of the film world and usually heard by those is it
NON-DIEGETIC
A sound which is added later during editing
for effect and therefore cannot be heard by those in the film worldMUSIC
A soundtrack added during editing and the sound and tone can affect the meaning of the scene
ASYNCHRONOUS SOUND
Sound which does not appear to arise directly from the scene, such as soundtrack music or voiceover
SYNCHRONOUS SOUND
Sound which is directly matched to a moving
image. The term is used in two ways in different sources:-Sound recorded at the same time as the images – for example, dialogue spoken by the actors on set. This does not include any sound added in post production
-Sound which appears to the audience to come from the scene, whether or not it was actually recorded with the images. Thus includes post-synched dialogue, sound effects and foley. Also known as parallel sound
SOUND EFFECTS
Usually added to film in post-production, they may be used to build up ambience or reinforce action.
SOUND BRIDGE
Film and TV editing technique in which visual cuts are deliberately not matched with audio cuts. For example, the editor may cut to a completely new scene, but allow sound from the preceding scene to run on for a short time. Alternatively, we may hear the sound of the next scene before we see it.
VOICE OVER
A type of non-diegetic, asynchronous sound in which the audience hear a voice that does not have a source either within the frame or within hearing distance, and which is not heard by the people on screen. Voice overs allow us to see things from a particular character’s point of view
CONTRAPUNTAL SOUND
Sounds that do not easily match the images they are accompanying, or even go against them. This can have a disorientating effect upon the audience and make them question what they are seeing.
